Have you seen the library yet this year?  Mrs. Russell has done an amazing job welcoming students into the library.  There has been over 862 student visits since the first day of school.  She has created a mini-lab, maker space area, and cozy reading spaces.  You can follow Mrs. Russell on twitter at  @gorzyckilibrary
Make sure you stop by and see the library at BTS Night.

Don't forget to sign-up for my twitter account, @GMSTigers
Teachers are doing a great job posting activities from their classroom.
This is Ms. Mielke's World Cultures class.

Don't forget Monday is a holiday.

Back-to-School Night is Tuesday.  Remember that parking is horrible!!!!! See website for specific times, and don't forget your child's schedule.

Have a long deserved weekend!

Welcome Back.  It has been a great first week.  Thank you to all the parents who helped deliver supplies.  I think the process went much smoother this year.  Plus having 6th grade parents come up after school to help their child organize their locker was great.

It was great to walk classrooms this week and see so much learning happening.

A few important reminders:
  • Schedule changes happen next week only.  Students need to complete a form which will be available in the counseling office.
  • There are still 36 7th graders without current immunizations.  These students will not be allowed in class starting Monday.
  • Sporting events start next week.  Remember that students must be picked-up within 10 minutes of the event ending.  For volleyball games, it is best 2 out of 3.  This means the games could end within an hour.  Our girls are really good.
Hope it was a great first week for you as well.  See you for week two!

Hard to believe this is our last Friday and the end of my third year here at GMS.  This has been a packed week.

Locker cleanouts....No  more backpacks
 Duke TIP awards...
 Final Orchestra Concert...
 NJHS induction ceremony...
The new mural is almost finished...
8th grade end of year celebration
Traditional student versus faculty volleyball games...

We are down to the final two days.  Don't forget that Monday is a holiday.

Also, student dress code is enforced.  There has been No agreement between the students and school that it doesn't need to be followed.  Shorts need to be fingertip length and sleeves must be three fingers on the shoulder.

The GMS Dancers had a wonderful time at the Dance Banquet.  Thank you Mrs. Hanson and Ms. Wilbanks for all you do.
GMS students recognized by the AISD School Board for their Vision and Voice entries.
A little fun time after STAAR.
Our own Teacher of the Year, Ms. Prepster was recognized at the district banquet.
The MCs for the Talent Show.
I couldn't watch all the acts, but she was amazing.
Seven days until summer.  End of Year field trips start next week.  I know the grade levels are looking for volunteers.  Please check out the website for more information.

Have a great weekend.

Wonder received the first ever Draylen Mason scholarship at the Austin Youth Orchestra event on Sunday.  Our orchestras received Superior ratings and Best in Class!

Art 3 students painting a new GMS mural.  Can't wait to see finished product.

Choir students warming up for their Spring Concert.  Heard Mr. Heckler had a surprise performance as well?

GMS had an awesome week appreciating teachers.  Not sure what they like better, the coffee bar or mugs.

Student Council getting ready for the Fun Run tomorrow.  Race starts at 8:30.  Hope to see you there.

Hope I am not giving away a surprise, but the woodshop students were so creative with their gifts this year.

Next week is a full week of STAAR.  Have a great weekend.

GMS student council summit
The winners of our Lip Sync Battle...the 6th grade Rockers!

Shout-out to our Orchestra students two of which earned Superior ratings.

We still have about 20% of our students who have not registered.  Remember that schedules will NOT be created if a student hasn't registered.  I heard some parents have just forgotten to hit the "submit" button.  Please double check.

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week.  Help me show our teachers how much they are appreciated.

Have a great weekend.

Today is the last day to register for Incoming 6th grade Transition Camp.  Please let your friends know.  The link is on the GMS website.

If you received an email this week from the school about registration, that means your child is NOT registered.  The scheduling process has begun and if your child is NOT registered a schedule will not be created.  Register now!

Mr. Howard is piloting the Good Card program with some of the PALS students.  You might see them on the news tonight. Positive stickers were placed on each 8th grade locker.  The 8th graders were quite surprised when they walked out of class.

If you have nothing to do this weekend, our dancers are performing both Friday and Saturday night here in the gym.

Have a great weekend.
