Hopefully your middle schooler has come home this week talking about the viewing of Screenagers.  Thank you to all the parents and the panel of experts that came out Saturday to watch it prior to students seeing it Monday and Tuesday. GMS also hosted the final countdown for the Geo Bee.  Seth O. will represent GMS at the next level.

Parker L., had the winning essay for the African American Heritage foundation.  He will be recognized at their celebration in February.


8th graders participated in our annual Career Fair.  There were some great career ideas helicopter pilots, crime lab investigators, lawyers, artists, architects, mechanics and more.  Thank you GMS community for stepping up to help.

Next week starts the countdown for 2017-2018 Choice Sheets. Counselors are making presentations to all students explaining the courses and providing support on how to complete the Choice Sheets.  Choice Sheets will be uploaded to the counselor website once presentations are made.  GMS will host a parent Choice Sheet Night Feb. 7th.  Check website for more details.

Congratulations to Mrs. Huerta, our new Teacher of the Year!  Our GMS drumline did a great job surprising her.



Student Council is hosting a Super Bowl of Caring Fundraiser.  Don't forget to bring can food items.

Did you know that seven GMS Art students placed in the Scholastic Art Awards from more than 1800 entries?!  Congratulations Elise, Brecken, Taylor, Evan, Olivia, Andrea, Edie an d Angel.  

Do you ever wonder where Gnasher News gets all the news?  There are flyers all around school asking students if they are interested in being interviewed for a particular topic.  
 GMS is partnering with NAMI to bring a teen support group to GMS.  For more information, please contact our counselors.
A huge shout-out to our amazing Fine Arts team and their performances at all of our feeder elementary schools.  
GMS finished the Spelling Bee today.  Thirteen students represent the top 1% of spellers at GMS:    Alex, Kyle, Hayden, Will, Tyler, Katelyn, Zach, Keira, Shubh, Guy, Ezra, and Carson.  Alex will represent GMS at the next level.  


Don't forget that there is no school on Monday, January 16th for the MLK Jr. holiday  School resumes on Tuesday, January 17th.

Did you know that the first publication of the Digit Newspaper came out before the holidays. Make sure you read a copy.  Go to Digit.press to see more about what is happening at GMS from the student perspective. 

In December, the student council raised funds for a staff member battling breast cancer.  The fundraiser was called the Pink Power Dunk.  The participating teachers raised over $2000!  Today those "winning" teachers got "dunked'"!  Thank you, Mrs. Dahill, Mr. Wieners, Ms. Alver, Mr. Summers, Mr. Mahoney, Mrs. Mazac, Mrs. Snyder, Mrs. R. Christensen, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Laughlin, Mrs. Zimmerman, Mrs. Allevato, and Mr. Kagan. 












Have you ever heard of the AAH Committee Literary Contest?  One of our students, Parker L., won 3rd place with his piece on creating future leaders winning $50,  a book for our library and a certificate signed by the governor!  Way to go, Parker!

Phoenix House is partnering with the 6th grade teachers to support students with making healthy choices.  The goal of the program is to empower students to resist the dangers of substance abuse and encourage students to make healthy choices.  All 6th grade parents should have received information related to the program.  Please let me know if you have questions.

GMS is hosting an 8th grade parent night "Get Ready for High School" on Jan. 11th at 6:30 in cafeteria.
