GMS began the week with a political forum.  Participation in the event were the two At-large candidates for the AISD Board of Trustees, Cindy Anderson and David Ryan Quintanilla .  Also present were the two Sheriff candidates, Sally Hernandez and Joe Martinez.  It was very powerful to hear from the candidates themselves on issues that are important to this community.   Thank you PTA for hosting the event.

Gorzycki celebrated Red Ribbon week with a different theme each day.  There were some very creative costumes.

GMS also hosted their first basketball game of the season as well as the first orchestra performance.  Both groups were amazing to watch.

GMS is allowing costumes Monday.  Please check the website under daily student announcements for the specifics.  There are rules as to what can be worn.

Our wonderful PTA provided us with a Fall Luncheon.  The food and conversation was awesome.  Thank you to all who volunteered!

Have a great weekend.

Volleyball season is over.  7A girls are Southwest Champions.

GMS is in the middle of Student Council Elections. Campaign posters have been placed all over campus.  Voting is October 28th.  Best of luck to all participants.

Facility Condition Assessment and Educational Suitability Assessment.
The Facilities and Bond Planning Advisory Committee was charged with evaluating the capital improvement needs of the district.  Over the past few months, AECOM, a private company, has completed an assessment for each campus.  Results from this assessment can be seen at www.AISDFuture.com
A summary for GMS can be seen under Fact Sheet and a detailed explanation can be seen under Reports.  Its hard to believe but GMS has quite a few needs.  We are almost 10 years old and because of this we haven't benefited from recent bonds.  Feedback for the reports can be done through the Feedback section on this site.  All information will be used to provide recommendations for a bond election in 2017.  Please let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

ELA students are finishing up their first Book Club book.  Mrs. Sindt's shared themes today.

Author Marie Lu shared her experiences with student this week. She was a great treat.

Next week GMS is celebrating Red Ribbon Week.  We are taking a stand against drugs!  Simone, a 7th grader on campus has created a plan for the week.  Monday is wear red; Tuesday is Hawaiian day "LEI off drugs"; Wednesday is Western day "give drugs the BOOT"; Thursday is Superhero day "Have the POWER to say no!; and Friday is Twin day "Working together can put drugs away forever"!

Enjoy the cooler weather and have a great weekend.

What a fun homecoming week!  So many fun activities.

There was even a flashmob this morning...

Homecoming dance was a huge success. Although I am not sure what the students like more, the pizza or the dancing.

Mr. Sandhu's science students created Edible Cell Projects that identified the structure and function of either an animal or plant cell.

Mrs. McEuen's reading students are finding their own places to do their Silent Independent Reading (SIR).  Think next time I need to grab my own book and go read outside!

On top of all the fun activities and learning this week, some student(s) even found time for a Random Act of Kindness.  Not sure who or when, but what a difference I have heard it made for students.   Thank you to.....
I would like to say thinks will calm down next week, but I don't think there is such a thing in middle school.  We still have volleyball and football games as well as a choir concert. Come enjoy the fun!

Unfortunately, the first t-shirt design had to be withdrawn.  With the support of the PALS program, the new design would come from the next three runner-ups.  I am happy to announce that GMS's very own Grace B. has designed our new GMS t-shirt.

Today was our first PAWS for Fun event.  This is celebrated at the end of each six weeks to recognize those students on campus that are doing the right thing.

Today was also the first Tiger Team Recess.  The students loved going outside which can only be done with the support of our parent volunteers.  Thank you!

GMS also celebrated our Custodians this week.  They do a great job in keeping our school clean and safe.

Next week the district is celebrating Pride Week.  GMS will honor and respect this event by recognizing that we are a Safe, Supportive, Inclusive school. Students could see posters and stickers around the school.  If you would like more information related to the event, please see the district website.  GMS will not be teaching any of the lessons but will continue with our regular SEL lessons.

GMS Homecoming is next week.  Please check the school website for a list of all the fun events planned.   One of the events is a dance on Friday.  It is a fundraiser sponsored by the dance teams.

Have a great weekend.
