Welcome to the last day of the first six weeks!  So much has happened in these this first six weeks! We have transitioned almost 400 sixth graders successfully to the campus, twenty-three new staff members and that doesn't include staff transitioning to other departments, and ....

Our football teams continue to excel
Our Lady Tigers "roar" over their components
And our Dancers bring life back into the commons.

To celebrate all the accomplishments of students, next Friday is our first PAWS for Fun day.  Our students have worked hard and deserve "a little free time".

Thanks for all your support and enjoy the first weekend of October.

Did you know that students in PE take the Fitnessgram?  If you would like your child's beginning of the year results, please contact his/her PE teacher.

Our 7th and 8th grade ELA are beginning their first Book Club of the year. Each group is able to select the book they want to read.  The book that is selected requires your signature.  Please make sure that what your child has selected is appropriate for them.  Check out our library website if you would like more resources in understanding if a book is right for your child.

Below is Mrs. Snyder's class as they learned who was in their Book Club.

During EXCEL, students have an opportunity to participate in enrichment activities.  Students in Mrs. Bell's class have been exploring painting techniques.

Tiger Time started this week.  This is an opportunity for students to receive tutoring and homework support during the school day. The attached link explains the process in more detail.  http://www.gmstigers.com/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=388390&type=d&pREC_ID=video

I am pleased to announce our new 7th grade ELA teacher, Carrie Juettner.  She has many years of experience teaching 7th grade ELA and is a writer herself.

That means Mrs. Wiese has officially moved into the Librarian role.  Please congratulate them both.

Mrs. Bell, one of our art teachers, has a Donorschoose project that she is hoping to get funded.  For more information about her "Take Our Digital Art" go to

The 6th graders had so much fun at their Annual Glow Dance.  Thank you PTA for this awesome event.

Have a great weekend!

The week began with Back-to-School Night.  Hope everyone enjoyed meeting teachers.  I am sure you now know all the ways that you can receive communication.  As you are subscribing to teacher websites, don't forget about subscribing to the GMS Newsgroup.  It is on the front page of our website.  The website is going through changes.  Please bare with us as this happens.  If you see mistakes, please let me know.  Also don't forget to sign up for my tweets.

Over the summer, the district participated in a summer reading challenge.  GMS had several top students in the district.  Two of our 6th and 7th graders were among the top 30 students in the district who read the most books.  Congratulations to these students.

As I mentioned previously, the cafeteria is still under going changes.  Last night there was an accident at the food warehouse, so menus will be different next week again.  As soon as the menu becomes consistent, I will let you know.

Next week, the PTA is hosting the first student event of the year.  It is the annual 6th grade Glow Dance.  If you would like to help, please see the PTA website.  While you are there, please join.  The GMS PTA supports the school in so many ways.  http://www.tigerpta.org/

The 8th grade PALS are hosting a school-wide t-shirt contest.  This t-shirt will represent the school and be available for anyone to purchase - parents, students, staff through the PTA.  To enter the contest, student should draw an 8.5 x 11 inch design.  The design must include either the letters GMS or the school name spelled out.  The design must be in one color.  It must be an ORIGINAL hand-drawn or computer generated image!  Students should NOT put their name on their artwork!!!  Submissions for the contest are due to Mrs. Sindt in room 804 by 3:45 Tuesday, Sept. 13th.  Voting will be school-wide on Sept. 16th during EXCEL after all submissions have been displayed for everyone to see.  If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Sindt.

There are lots of events happening next week:  football, volleyball, band jamboree, and the 6th grade social.  Hope to see you there.

Have a great weekend.
